Wide receiver Rodney Adams, the feel good story of the summer, was on the Bears’ 53-man roster for exactly one day before the team waived him on Wednesday.
Adams impressed throughout training camp and preseason, where he made a strong case for a roster spot. He was the fifth receiver on Chicago’s initial 53-man roster, and the only receiver who had a good rapport with rookie quarterback Justin Fields, who is expected to take over at some point this season.
The Bears cut Adams to make room on the roster for one of two new receivers — Breshad Perriman or Nsimba Webster, both of whom are new to the roster. With three practice squad slots still up for grabs, Adams figures to occupy one of those.
Chicago also officially moved linebacker Danny Trevathan and offensive tackle Teven Jenkins to injured reserve. Trevathan is on short-term IR, which means he can return as early as Week 4. The hope is Jenkins, who had back surgery a couple of weeks ago, can return at some point this season.
The Bears re-signed cornerback Artie Burns and safety Marqui Christian to the active roster.
