There’s arguably been no Chicago Bears player more beloved in recent history than defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, who’s signing a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hicks, who spent the last six years with the Bears, was one of former GM Ryan Pace’s best free agent signings back in 2016. He quickly established himself as a force along the defensive line, which earned him a four-year, $48 million contract extension in 2017.
Hicks’ loss is a huge one for Chicago as the Bears were simply better on defense when he was on the field, including during his lone Pro Bowl honor in 2018.
While Bears fans are bummed to see Hicks go, they’re wishing him nothing but the best as he has a chance to finally win a Super Bowl ring with a true contender.
