When the Pittsburgh Steelers broke a nearly 20-year streak and drafted a cornerback in the first round in 2016, it was for Artie Burns. His film wasn’t the best and his transition wasn’t going to be easy. Fast forward to now and the Burns experiment is over in Pittsburgh. ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter is reporting through Burns’ agent that the free agent is signing a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears.
Burns lost his starting job in 2018 and as his confidence continued to waiver, forcing him to the bench and finally turned him into a gameday inactive for much of 2019. Pittsburgh drafted Justin Layne last year and with the emergence of Joe Haden and Steven Nelson as one of the best tandems in the AFC, Burns knew his time was coming to an end with the Steelers.
Now Burns can use a one-year prove it kind of contract to get his career back on track in Chicago.
