Bears RB David Montgomery once again nominated for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week

Bears RB David Montgomery’s 106-yard rushing performance against the Lions garnered him a nomination for FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

David Montgomery has been the best running back in the NFC this season — and the Bears’ best offensive player — and it’s easy to see why after his second 100-yard rushing game through these first four weeks.

Montgomery led the Bears with 106 rushing yards on 23 carries (4.6 average) and two touchdowns. Chicago leaned heavily on Montgomery to establish a rhythm early, and the offense actually looked like a competent offense due to a combination of Bill Lazor calling plays, Justin Fields’ deep ball accuracy and Montgomery’s play.

That performance garnered Montgomery a nomination for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week, where he’s up against the likes of Dallas’ Ezekiel Elliot and Tennessee’s Derrick Henry.

This is Montgomery’s second FedEx Ground Player of the Week nomination this year. He was nominated back in Week 1 after rushing for 108 yards rushing on 16 carries (6.8 average) and a touchdown against the Rams.

Montgomery suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter, where he could’ve added to his stats. Initial reports are that Montgomery didn’t suffer a major knee injury — like an ACL tear — although he’s undergoing further testing.

Montgomery will miss some time, although we don’t know how much at this time.
