There was good and bad news from Monday’s practice for the Chicago Bears, who returned to Halas Hall for a brief practice coming off the bye week.
The good news was that starting running back David Montgomery was back after suffering a concussion in a Week 9 loss against the Tennessee Titans, which caused him to miss last Monday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The bad news? Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks was not spotted at practice on Monday. Hicks suffered a hamstring injury during the Vikings game back on Nov. 16.

While he’s not officially out of concussion protocol yet, getting Montgomery back would be important for this Bears offense, although it definitely won’t be a cure all. The offensive line’s struggles have been evident for most of the season.
Still, for a team that ranks among the worst in the run game, Montgomery’s return would help this struggling run game looking to get back on track.
“Being able to have him get back — just that level of confidence and that toughness that he brings to the huddle and every time he touches the football,” head coach Matt Nagy said Monday. “He’s a complete team player. He’s all about ‘we’ and our team … so I’m excited to get him back.”
Also encouraging news was the return of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who appeared during the portion of practice open to the media. Trubisky is recovering from a right shoulder injury suffered back on Nov. 1. Nick Foles, who suffered a hip/glute injury against the Vikings, was not in attendance.
