Bears running back David Montgomery has gotten off to a solid start on the ground this season. Montgomery has rushed for 203 yards on 46 carries for a 4.4-yard average and a touchdown throughout the first three weeks of the 2021 season.
In his first two games, Montgomery saw 36 carries for 169 yards and a score. But given the Bears offense’s struggles against the Browns, Montgomery wasn’t utilized, getting just 10 carries for 34 yards.
With Chicago’s offense looking to get back on track against Detroit, look for Montgomery to be more involved in the game plan, where he has a chance to break some runs open against what’s been a solid Lions run defense so far this season.
Through three weeks of NFL action, Montgomery is the fifth leading rusher in the league, where he trails Tennessee’s Derrick Henry, Cincinnati’s Joe Mixon, Cleveland’s Nick Chubb and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson.
Back in Week 1, Montgomery was nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week for his performance, where he rushed for 108 yards on 16 carries.
Interestingly enough, Montgomery is the lone NFC representative on the list through Week 3.
