As the Chicago Bears gear up their home opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, there will once again be rotating weekly captains for each game, something head coach Matt Nagy established back in 2018.
There will be one captain from each phase — offense, defense and special teams — which will give different players an opportunity to represent their squad throughout the year.
For their Week 2 game against the Bengals, the team captains will be quarterback Andy Dalton, cornerback Jaylon Johnson and linebacker Christian Jones.

It’s not exactly a surprise to find Dalton as the offensive captain heading into a game against his former team. Last year with the Cowboys, Dalton got his “revenge” with a 30-7 victory over the Bengals. The hope is Dalton can find some of that magic to help push Chicago to its first win of the season.
Elsewhere, cornerback Jaylon Johnson was the most promising member of the Bears’ secondary last week, and Chicago is going to need a big game out of him against a Bengals offense that features a slew of weapons in Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase and Tyler Boyd.
Special teams was the most consistent unit for the Bears in last week’s opener, mostly because their services weren’t required much. But with coverage issues being a thing back in preseason, Chicago needs to win in all phases, including special teams, where Jones will be a big factor.
