Bears LG Cody Whitehair is ‘going to miss some time’ with a knee injury

Bears HC Matt Eberflus said LG Cody Whitehair will miss some time with a knee injury, but he expects Whitehair to return this season.

The Chicago Bears offensive line lost its best offensive lineman in left guard Cody Whitehair, who exited Sunday’s game against the New York Giants with a knee injury.

Head coach Matt Eberflus provided an update on Whitehair during his Monday press conference, where he confirmed Whitehair is “going to miss some time” with his knee injury.

Eberflus remained mum on the possibility of Whitehair landing on injured reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. Eberflus said he wouldn’t disclose that until Wednesday, when he’s required to report injuries. But, considering it’s a knee injury, it’s definitely a possibility.

Does Eberflus expect Whitehair to return this season?

“Oh yeah,” he said.

Whitehair earned a team-high 83.3 grade from Pro Football Focus, and he’s been Chicago’s most consistent offensive lineman this season. It’s a brutal loss for a young group that’s struggled to keep Justin Fields upright this season.

Eberflus said that the offensive line combination will be the same as it was following Whitehair’s exit on Sunday: LT Braxton Jones, LG Lucas Patrick, C Sam Mustipher, RG Teven Jenkins, RT Larry Borom.
