Bears LB Roquan Smith ‘felt like a kid’ playing in the rain in upset win vs. 49ers

Roquan Smith had a ball playing in the rain as the Bears upset the 49ers in Week 1.

The Chicago Bears opened the 2022 season with a 19-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers at a rain-soaked Soldier Field.

While that made for some messy field conditions, the Bears had a blast playing in the rain. Surely the end result played a huge factor in that.

Following the comeback win, linebacker Roquan Smith was soaking (pun not intended) it all in.

“I felt like a kid out here for real though,” Smith told the team’s Twitter account after the game. “It was like growing up in Georgia, playing in the rain. Then you out here dreaming of playing on Sunday…and that happened.”

Smith was also interviewed by NFL Network’s Stacey Dales, where he shared that same excitement, as well as took joy in proving all the doubters wrong.

“This feels really good just being out here,” Smith said. “Everybody counting us out, we know that. But we knew what we had, we knew our plan all week and we executed. We said the weather is one thing, but that’s not going to stop us.”

The Bears are tied for first place in the NFC North with the Vikings at 1-0, and Chicago has a big prime-time showdown against the Packers next Sunday, where there’s another opportunity to shock the football world.
