Bears hire head coach not named Brian Daboll or Leslie Frazier

The #Bears hired a new head coach by the name of ‘not Brian Daboll or Leslie Frazier’ as far as we are concerned:

Ever hear of Matt Eberflus? You have now.

Big NFL followers will know of Eberflus. He has been a candidate on the coaching cycle for a year or two now. Previously he was on the coaching staff of Frank Reich in Indianapolis with the Colts as his defensive coordinator.

Now Eberflus has moved on and it benefits the Buffalo Bills.

The Chicago Bears announced that Eberflus was hired as the team’s next head coach.

Relating to the Bills, that comes as good news in two ways.

Both of Buffalo’s head-coaching candidates, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier had interviewed for that job. While connections for both had quelled a bit in recent weeks, either leaving for Chicago is now completely off the table.

Daboll was a early candidate for the Bears gig, interviewing there shortly after former head coach Matt Nagy was fired. Frazier’s name was then quickly connected, and at one point was considered a favorite for the job because of his time spent there during his playing career.

But for now, both Bills coordinators stay intact.

As referenced, the rumor mill connecting both had slowed down as of late regarding the Bears. It’s not completely dried up.

Both had two interviews for the still vacant New York Giants job and Daboll’s name has now surfaced as a potential frontrunner for the Miami Dolphins vacancy. As the days roll on, we’ll see if the Bills hang out to either coach… but at least Chicago has given Buffalo some hope.

Stay tuned to Bills Wire throughout the winter as we will provide all updates regarding Buffalo assistants and front-office members that are connected to other NFL teams.
