Bears GM Ryan Poles didn’t rule out adding veteran edge rusher in training camp

Bears GM Ryan Poles indicated he’s interested in adding a veteran EDGE, but “there’s guys we have high expectations for” on the roster.

As the Chicago Bears gear up for the start of training camp, there are plenty of questions at the defensive end position.

The defensive line was the weakest position group on the roster last season, totaling a league-worst 20 sacks in 17 games. While the Bears made some moves this offseason to address the pass rush, including DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green, they still lack a star at the position.

There’s been plenty of chatter about Chicago looking to add a veteran edge rusher to the roster this summer, and general manager Ryan Poles indicated he’d be interested in adding one.

But: “It takes two to make sure it works out,” Poles said.

There aren’t a lot of options left on the free agent market, but the top guys are Yannick Ngakoue, Justin Houston and Jadeveon Clowney.

Poles sounds like he’s looking to add a veteran edge rusher, but he also noted “there’s guys we have high expectations for” currently on the roster, including Walker, Green, Trevis Gipson and Dominique Robinson.

While it doesn’t sound like any move is imminent, it’s a situation worth monitoring as training camp begins this week.
