Baylor guard, and NCAA champion, Matthew Mayer announced on Monday that he will withdraw his name from the NBA draft and return to school for his senior season.

The news was first reported by Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Mayer was among the 69 prospects expected to attend the NBA draft combine this week in Chicago, Illinois. However, his stance on participating in the event changed and he opted to withdraw and return to Baylor next season.

The 6-foot-9 guard helped lead the Bears to the national title last season after averaging 8.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals and one assist in 30 games. He posted 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds during the NCAA Tournament as Baylor defeated Gonzaga in the title game.

Mayer was not projected to be selected by most mock drafts with many ranking him just outside of the top 60. By returning to school, Mayer can try to improve his draft stock with another deep tournament run in an expanded role with the team.

The NBA draft is scheduled to take place on July 29.
