Bats come alive as Lady Vols defeat Campbell, Lamar

Recapping Lady Vols’ day at the diamond in Texas A&M tournament.

The bats were hot for Tennessee’s softball team Friday as the Lady Vols opened its weekend at Texas A&M’s Reveille Classic in College Station.

The No. 25 Lady Vols claimed a pair of games as they posted victories over Campbell and Lamar.

UT (14-1) opened the day with a 13-1 victory over the Camels in a game that was called in the fourth inning due to a tournament time limit.

The Lady Vols scored a season-high 13 runs and pounded out 14 hits against Campbell (4-5).

Kiki Milloy, Tennessee’s center fielder, went 2-for-3 with two homers (including a grand slam), five RBIs, four runs, a walk and two stolen bases.

Ivy Davis also homered and drove in two runs and scored twice while Madison Webber had two hits, scored one run and knocked in another for the Lady Vols, who took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

In that frame, Milloy and Davis both had solo shots and Ayala chipped in with an RBI single.

In the third, Davis had an RBI single and Milloy blasted a three-run shot to make the score 7-0.

Webber made it 8-0 with a scoring single in the fourth.

Milloy smacked a grand slam in the fifth and Josie Willingham scored when Anna Fox reached on an error by the Camels, who scored an unearned run in the fifth.

In the circle, Callie Turner improved to 3-0 with a complete game victory. She surrendered three hits, one run and one walk, while striking out three.

The Lady Vols closed out the day with an 8-0 five-inning victory over Lamar.

Against the Cardinals, Cailin Hannon and Rylie West each came up with two-run triples. Hannon drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.

Davis and Weber both had scoring singles and Amanda Curran delivered a pinch-hit RBI double.

Tennessee pitcher Bailey McCachren improved to 4-0 as she tossed a two-hit shutout. She walked one and struck out one.
