After the game was postponed a couple days following a COVID-19 outbreak on the Wildcats, Wisconsin returned to action Monday following a six-day break between contests, falling to Northwestern 66-63 on the road.
The Badgers couldn’t hit their shots Monday, shooting just 38.6% from the field compared to the Wildcats’ 43.1%. The team was also inefficient from the free-throw line, going 9-for-16 (56.3%) from the charity stripe.
Chucky Hepburn in particular struggled Monday, scoring 12 points while going 4-for-16 from the field, but he did convert three three-pointers on nine attempts.
For Northwestern, they were led by senior guard Boo Buie, who produced 20 points (7-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 5-6 FT), seven rebounds and five assists over 37 minutes.
One bright spot for Wisconsin in Monday’s defeat was their ability to distribute the ball to one another, compiling 16 assists compared to the Wildcats’ nine. Another positive was the performance of Jordan Davis, scoring a team-high 15 points (6-10 FG, 3-6 3Pt).
The Badgers’ loss dropped the team to 12-6 on the season and 4-4 in the Big Ten. Wisconsin will return to action Wednesday to face Maryland (12-7) on the road.
Northwestern improved to 13-5 with the win and are now 4-3 in conference games. The Wildcats will play Nebraska (10-10) in Lincoln on Wednesday.
