The Wisconsin football team is just 78 days away from taking the field Sept. 2 versus Buffalo in their 2023 season opener. With the Badgers looking to make a mark in the first year under new head coach Luke Fickell, wide receiver Jared Abbrederis did just that in 2013.
Entering his fourth and final season with the Badgers, Abbrederis was coming off of back-to-back productive campaigns in 2011 and 2012, but he’d set a record in 2013. He recorded a program-high 78 receptions on his way to 1,081 yards (fourth all-time) and seven touchdowns.
The Badgers went 9-3 in the regular season that year prior to losing to South Carolina 34-24 in the 2014 Capital One Bowl. Abbrederis, a senior, entered the 2014 NFL Draft and was selected in the fifth round (176th overall) by the Green Bay Packers.
Although he didn’t last long in the league, the wide receiver’s career at Madison was one of the best in program history ranking tied for first with Brandon Williams in receptions (202), second in receiving yards (3,140) and tied for second with Tony Simmons in touchdown catches (23).
