Alabama misery is Texas joy. At least in the college football rankings this week. The Texas Longhorns returned to the top spot of the AP Top 25 thanks to Vanderbilt’s stunning 40-35 upset of former No. 1 the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Texas spent the prior two weeks in the top spot before being passed by the Tide, who were coming off an epic win over the Georgia Bulldogs.
Alabama dropped six spots to No. 7 in the new rankings. The other big fall at the top for the rankings was the Tennessee Volunteers. The Vols, who were upset at Arkansas 19-14, dropped four sports to No. 8.
The Michigan Wolverines and Missouri Tigers, each losers on Saturday, dropped 12 and 14 spots respectively.
SMU and Pitt joined the poll for the first time.
