Auburn’s Roger McCreary opens up about his NFL opportunity

Roger McCreary recently discussed his opportunity in an exclusive interview with USA TODAY Sports Plus.

As the end of April approaches, former Auburn Tigers cornerback [autotag]Roger McCreary[/autotag] recently opened up about the entire process and the opportunity in front of him.

During his stint on the Plains, one could argue that there wasn’t a more consistent producer on the back end of SEC defenses. He didn’t have the interception numbers of other cornerbacks, but McCreary was always around the football. He recently spoke in an interview with Safid Deen of USA TODAY Sports Plus.

“I want to be the first corner off the board,” McCreary said in a recent interview with USA TODAY Sports (subscription required). “Like I said, I’m the best. So, I feel like I should be the first corner off the board.”

The native of Mobile, Alabama, has no shortage of confidence. When it comes to playing the cornerback position, that is something you desperately need to have. Often times you are alone on an island in coverage and the cornerback needs to believe in himself and his abilities.

When it comes to McCreary, he understands that his opportunity for the NFL is bigger than himself. He is playing for his family as well.

It feels great to me. I’m really happy. And like, all my hard work is paying off. But in my mindset, I’m still in the process. I’m thinking low. I’m thinking I have a lot to improve. And I feel like in this situation now, my family, they’re proud of me. And I’m just there to make them proud. I want to take care of my mom, my sister. I want them to do nothing in life. That’s my opportunity. I grew up watching a lot of people who live their dreams and everything. And I want to live my dream and provide for my family. That’s what I’m going for.
