The Tigers came into Tuesday night’s matchup as one of the hottest teams in all of college baseball. They had won six games in a row.
That is certainly a large feat to accomplish especially for a team that plays in the SEC. It is also worthy to note that Auburn was going for their 30th win of the season on Tuesday.
As the Tigers traveled to Jacksonville to take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, many wondered if the Tigers were looking ahead to this weekend when they will take on the No. 1 ranked Tennessee Volunteers. That didn’t appear to be the case on Tuesday as Auburn handled their business.
The offense started off slow for both teams as neither could punch across a run until the fourth inning. In the top half of the fourth inning, Auburn shortstop Brody Moore singled to center field to bring across first baseman Sonny DiChiara. In the bottom half of the fourth inning, the Gamecocks tied it up as right-fielder Carson Crowe homered to center.
One run didn’t please the Tigers enough. In the top half of the fifth inning, Butch Thompson’s squad scratched across five runs.
The first run of the inning came from left-fielder Brooks Carlson being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. That scored second baseman, Cole Foster. One batter later and it was designated hitter Cam Hill who drew the walk. His walk brought across third baseman Blake Rambusch. A single by right-fielder Bobby Peirce brought in DiChiara. Then, Carlson touched home after a wild pitch. The last run of the fifth inning for the Tigers came via a groundout by Moore to score Peirce.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Auburn led by a score of 6-1. The Gamecocks weren’t done fighting just yet however. First baseman Alex Strachan would hit a single into left-center field to bring across second baseman Cole Frederick. One batter later and it was shortstop Isaac Alexander with a fly out to right field to bring across Alabama transfer and center-fielder T.J. Reeves. At the end of five, Auburn led 6-3.
In the seventh inning, Auburn added two more runs off of a Moore single that scored DiChiara and a flyout from catcher Nate LaRue that scored Hill. In the bottom half of the inning, Crowe hit yet another home run. It didn’t turn out to be enough for the Gamecocks in their mid-week matchup with Auburn. The Tigers took home the win by a score of 8-4.
