Auburn lands top offensive line transfer from Western Kentucky

Hugh Freeze continues to target the trenches.

The Tigers’ extensive work in the transfer portal is paying off.

Coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and staff have landed another player from the transfer portal on Thursday — this time, it’s former Western Kentucky offensive lineman [autotag]Gunner Britton[/autotag]. Britton is the second lineman to commit to the Tigers this offseason, following former Tulsa player Dillon Wade.

Britton’s Western Kentucky team faced Auburn in 2022, losing to the Tigers 41-17 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Now, he’ll join the Tigers to help a line that has seen numerous injuries and departures in recent years. Britton is the No. 5 transfer offensive tackle in the nation, so the addition of another lineman seems to indicate that the offensive line has been a point of emphasis for coach Hugh Freeze to protect whoever will be under center for the Tigers in 2023.

Auburn has hosted other potential lineman transfers as well, bringing in Baylor’s [autotag]Micah Mazzccua[/autotag] for a visit as well. The transfer season is far from over, so whether Freeze will continue to target the trenches after Britton remains to be seen.
