Auburn kicker enters transfer portal

Kicker Ben Patton hit the 49-yard kick that extended last year’s Iron Bowl.

An Auburn kicker has entered the transfer portal, but breathe easy — it isn’t Tigers’ starting kicker Anders Carlson.

Instead, it’s kicker [autotag]Ben Patton[/autotag], who has only made six attempts in his career. One of those attempts, though, is one him and Auburn fans are sure to remember. Patton kicked the 49-yard field goal in last year’s Iron Bowl to send the game to overtime, though the Tigers would end up falling short in the end.

Patton has only made six attempts in his career at Auburn, but he’s hit five of them. The longest of his attempts was that 49-yarder that extended the Iron Bowl, and his overall kicking percentage over his career thus far is 83 percent. He also participated in seven kickoffs over his time on the Plains for an average of 58 yards. One of those kickoffs was a touchback, while another went out of bounds.

Patton has three years of eligibility left to use if he so chooses.
