Auburn basketball sits at No. 12 in Associated Press Poll ahead of SEC Tournament

Heading into this week’s SEC Tournament, Auburn basketball sits at No. 12 in the last Associated Press Poll before “Selection Sunday.”

The SEC Tournament is set to start this week in Nashville, with many teams in the league looking to make their final statements for an NCAA Tournament bid. Auburn basketball is off to a good start in its efforts after it won its final two games, boosting them in the Associated Press Poll.

The Tigers made their final road appearance on Tuesday night at Missouri, a game in which they won handily 101-74. They channeled that momentum into their senior day matchup with Georgia on Saturday, beating the Bulldogs 92-78. Following the two victories, Auburn moved up one spot to No. 12 in the rankings.

The Tennessee Volunteers, who finished as regular season champions of the SEC, dropped one spot to No. 5 after splitting its final two games, including a loss to Kentucky. The Wildcats, who are currently one of the hottest teams in the country, rose six spots to No. 9. Auburn’s potential quarterfinal opponent in South Carolina comes in at No. 15 after splitting its last two games of the season as well. Alabama dropped down to No. 19 after a close win over Arkansas and a loss to Florida.

The Tigers look to make one final rise in their tournament stock with a good performance in the SEC Tournament this week. Their first game will be on Friday afternoon, playing against either Vanderbilt, Arkansas or South Carolina.
