The calendar is making its’ final turn in the month of April, and Auburn Baseball has work to do in order to finish the season strong.
In D1Baseball’s latest Field of 64 projection, Auburn is listed as one of the first five out at the halfway point of SEC play, joining Xavier, Rutgers, Long Beach State, and Louisiana.
Since winning a three-game series over Georgia March 24-26, Auburn has dropped three straight SEC series to Florida, Texas A&M, and Alabama. The recent rough patch has led the Tigers to a 5-10 record against SEC teams ahead of this weekend’s series with Mississippi State at Plainsman Park. Auburn has dropped four of the first five series of the SEC slate.
One small step that the Tigers could make in order to climb back into postseason contention is winning the series this weekend at home against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are listed among the last five teams to get into the NCAA Tournament according to D1Baseball, which has them listed as a No. 3 seed in the Winston-Salem Regional hosted by Wake Forest. Mississippi State is 22-15 overall and is 5-10 within the SEC.
According to the latest projection, six SEC teams are slated to host regionals, led by the projected top seed, LSU.
Auburn will look to finish the SEC slate strong, as they are set to compete with Mississippi State, South Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss, and Missouri before the SEC Tournament that is set to get underway on May 23.
