If you are an Auburn baseball fan, and you tuned out after the Tigers dropped a 6-1 series-clinching decision to Alabama on April 16… you’ve missed a lot.
Since then, Auburn has posted an SEC-best 12-3 record over the last five weekend series and has won six games in a row over conference foes. Auburn has also gone from missing a regional entirely to now joining the hosting conversation.
D1Baseball’s latest Field of 64 projection favors the Tigers, as they have dubbed them the No. 12 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Baseball Tournament, pairing them with Stanford, who is projected to take the No. 5 seed.
Here’s a look at who is projected to visit Plainsman Park next weekend according to D1Baseball:
- Auburn
- East Carolina
- Troy
- Alabama State
This regional, should it hold up, will provide quality baseball as three of the four teams are ranked in the RPI top 35. Outside of Auburn, which is currently ranked No. 17, East Carolina checks in at No. 22, and Troy is at No. 35. Alabama State is projected to enter the NCAA Tournament as the SWAC Champion, and currently sits at a respectable 39-15 record.
The Trojans from Troy have already taken down Auburn this season. In the Tigers’ final midweek game on April 25, the Trojans defeated Auburn, 8-7, after storming back from a 6-1 deficit in the 1st inning. However, that loss is considered the “wake-up call” for Auburn, as they would go on to take two of three from South Carolina the following weekend. Auburn is also 10-2 since the loss to Troy.
The NCAA Baseball Tournament selection show is scheduled for Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m. CT, and can be seen on ESPN2 and ESPN+. The NCAA Regionals are set to begin on Friday, June 2.
