Atlanta Hawks at Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Atlanta Hawks at Portland Trail Blazers and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (16-19) travel to Rose City Monday for a 10 p.m. ET game against the Portland Trail Blazers (13-22). Below, we look at the Hawks vs. Trail Blazers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Atlanta ended a three-game losing skid – and an 0-3 against-the-spread run – with a 121-118 upset victory at the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday as a 2-point underdog.

Since Dec. 22, Atlanta is 2-4 straight-up (SU), 2-4 ATS and 3-3 Over/Under (O/U) with the 24th-ranked non-garbage time net rating at minus-8.0 points per 100 possessions, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Portland has lost four consecutive games (0-4 ATS) with the most recent being a 139-106 road loss at the Los Angeles Lakers Friday. The O/U is 2-2 in those games while the Trail Blazers feature the worst non-garbage time net rating at minus-23.4 points per 100 possessions.

These teams split their two-game series last regular season with the home team winning and covering both.

Hawks at Trail Blazers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 121, Trail Blazers 110

Money line

PASS because Atlanta (-220) should win this one handily but the price is too expensive for any NBA regular-season money line favorite.

Also, Atlanta has a bunch of players returning from the health and safety protocols so I’d like to wait and see before laying a big number on the Hawks to win outright.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the HAWKS -5.5 (-108) because they’ve been bet by sharp money and the Trail Blazers are 0-3 ATS with a minus-10.3 scoring margin and a minus-5.7 ATS margin as home underdogs.

Atlanta opened as a 5-point favorite, but the market has steamed up the Hawks’ price since Portland is dealing with a myriad of injury issues itself.

The Trail Blazers could be without its top-two players by on/off net rating, Lillard and Nurkic (per CTG). Plus, Portland head coach Chauncey Billups and assistant head coach Scott Brooks are sidelined in COVID-19 health and safety protocols as well.

My two main concerns with the HAWKS -5.5 (-108) in this spot are the aforementioned returning pieces and Atlanta’s 7-11 ATS record on the road.

Over/Under

BET OVER 225.5 (-115) because neither team can play defense. Atlanta’s defensive effective field-goal shooting (eFG%) ranks 24th and Portland’s defensive eFG% is dead-last.

On top of that, the Hawks are averaging 118.7 points per game (PPG) over their last three games while the Trail Blazers are allowing an NBA’s worst 130.3 PPG in the last three games, and Atlanta is right behind them at 126.3 PPG.

The OVER 225.5 (-115) is my favorite wager in this game.
