Athlon Sports names Texas QB Quinn Ewers as one of its top breakout candidates

“Ewers is one of the top quarterback recruits of the modern era.”

If Quinn Ewers does win the quarterback competition for Texas, he will have no shortage of offensive weapons at his disposal.

Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian revamped the Texas roster this offseason by bringing in the No. 5 recruiting class in the country for the 2022 cycle and landing a handful of elite transfers.

It doesn’t appear Ewers has separated himself from Hudson Card enough to win the position battle yet, but many feel it’s Ewers’ job to lose. Several national publications are already predicting him to be one of the breakout stars of the 2022 college football season.

Ewers was included in Athlon Sports’ top 50 breakout players for this upcoming season.

After one season (and playing two snaps) at Ohio State, Ewers transferred to his home state of Texas. The Longhorns have question marks up front, but Ewers should benefit from a quarterback-friendly offense run by coach Steve Sarkisian, along with the Big 12’s best skill talent including running back Bijan Robinson and receivers Xavier Worthy and Isaiah Neyor. Ewers is one of the top quarterback recruits of the modern era and he should start to realize that potential in ’22.

Although the Longhorns will likely be without wide receiver Isaiah Neyor for the season due to a knee injury, Tarique Milton, Troy Omeire, Agiye Hall, Brenen Thompson and others look to fill the void.
