Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will not contain loot boxes, gambling systems, or explicit content — despite an Adults Only (AO) 18+ rating in the reveal suggesting otherwise.
After the Ubisoft Forward livestream on Saturday, the Xbox Store listing tagged Assassin’s Creed Mirage with an Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) AO rating, specifically citing gambling as in-game content. However, it was just a mistake.
“Following the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Mirage during Ubisoft Forward, some store pages mistakenly displayed the game for preorders with an Adults Only ESRB rating,” Ubisoft said via IGN. “While Assassin’s Creed Mirage is still pending rating, Ubisoft wants to reassure players that no real gambling or lootboxes are present in the game.”

Well, that’s a relief. It’s not surprising news either since major retailers and console storefronts don’t sell games with AO ratings. Given this is Ubisoft’s flagship series, it probably wouldn’t want to eradicate sales like that. That, and the ESRB doesn’t rate any title until release is imminent — and Assassin’s Creed Mirage isn’t coming out until 2023.
Several other Assassin’s Creed games were announced during the event, including projects Jade, Red, and Hexe. All of which are in development at different studios within Ubisoft.
