No. 14 Tennessee lost its first Southeastern Conference home series Saturday against No. 12 Arkansas, 9-6, at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Razorbacks’ first baseman Danielle Gibson hit two home runs and had seven RBIs in the two games against the Lady Vols (19-8, 2-2 SEC), who have now lost two consecutive games.
Arkansas (19-4, 2-0) scored two runs in each of the first innings and never trailed in the contest.
Tennessee pulled to within 4-1 in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Amanda Ayala, who added a two-run single in the fifth to trim Arkansas’ advantage to 4-3.
Ayala went 3-for-4 with one run, and three RBIs.
Ashley Morgan also homered in the game for the Lady Vols.
UT starter Bailey McCachren pitched 2.1 innings and recorded a loss as she yielded four runs (two earned), two hits and one walk.
Reliever Nicola Simpson pitched 4.2 innings and surrendered one run, one hit and one walk, while striking out three.
Erin Edmoundson appeared in the game for UT and gave up four runs and two hits. She did not record an out.
