Arkansas swimmer Ferraguti claims SEC’s top honor for second time

Razorback swimmer Alessia Ferraguti has claimed the 100-yard and 200-yard breastsroke in every meet this season.

Arkansas graduate Alessia Ferraguti has again been named the SEC’s Swimmer of the Week, claiming the honor for the second time this season.

The 5-foot-8 Italian swam to four podium finishes last Thursday as the Razorbacks (3-0) went on the road for the first time and defeated a stout LSU team, 151-149.

Ferraguti placed first in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.33, then captured the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:12.93, both good for NCAA B-Cut times. She was also part of the Razorbacks’ first-place finish in the 200-yard Medley Relay and participated in a second-place finish for the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.

“LSU has been a hard place to get a dual meet win, recently,” Arkansas Head Coach Neil Harper said, adding that the team’s success is “reflective of where our team and its leaders are.

“Alessia getting this award is a reflection of her achievements in the meets this weekend.”

Ferraguti also won both events in the Razorbacks’ season-opening win over Kentucky on Sept. 22. The Hogs followed the win over LSU by defeating Little Rock 182-115 last Friday, to remain unbeaten.

Arkansas will return to action on Oct. 27, traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., to face No. 10 Stanford.
