Star forward Jaylen Brown signed a five-year, $304 million supermax contract extension with the Boston Celtics last week, making the Georgia native the owner of the largest contract in NBA history.
The Celtics had to secure the deal to avoid losing Brown for nothing next year when the former Cal standout would become eligible for a regular supermax contract — but also became an unrestricted free agent.
Does this mean the Celtics are in a marriage of convenience with Brown regarding his supermax extension? Or would Boston have been happy to give the deal to him if it knew it didn’t need to worry about Brown decamping to another club?
The host of the eponymous “What’s Right with Nick Wright” show recently put together a segment on this question.
Check out the clip embedded above to hear what Wright has to say about whether the ties that bind Brown and Boston are mostly ones of convenience.
