It took more than 14 years but Appalachian State has knocked off another ranked opponent.
The Mountaineers, who were an FCS school when they shocked Michigan in 2007, upended 16th-ranked Coastal Carolina, 30-27, in a Sun Belt contest Wednesday.
This marked the first victory over a ranked team for Appalachian State as an FBS school.
The winning margin came on a field goal as time expired by Chandler Staton from 24 yards. Staton is 11-for-11 on the season in field-goal attempts.

Coastal had attempted to let the Mountaineers score two plays earlier but the Appalachian State running back wisely took a knee to let the clock tick because the Chanticleers had used their timeouts.
Former Clemson QB Chase Brice leads App State to 30-27 upset over No. 14 Coastal Carolina, snapping Coastal's 18-game regular-season win streak. The Chants have never won in Boone.

The game changed in the second quarter after a touchdown that saw Appalachian State cut a 14-0 deficit in half on a 1-yard run by Camerun Peoples and PAT.
The Mountaineers went for an onside kick and recovered it, swinging momentum in a big way.
