Appalachian State at Tennessee: Three things to know
- App State rides in on a two-game win and cover streak, topping Charlotte 61-57 last time out on the road as three-point underdogs. They’re just one bucket short of a perfect record, as their only loss came Nov. 30 against Bowling Green in a 78-76 overtime setback.
- Tennessee has hit the hardwood just twice so far, topping Colorado and Cincinnati, winning by nine in each outing. They covered each game with the Under connecting in both. The Vols are averaging just 60.5 PPG to rank 302nd in the nation, but they’re fifth defensively with only 51.5 PPG allowed.
- The Mountaineers are averaging 80.8 PPG overall. They’re a very good free-throw shooting team, hitting at an 82.2-percent clip. Defensively the Mountaineers have allowed just 55.2 PPG, and they’re holding opponents to 35.7 percent from the floor.

Tennessee 69, Appalachian State 56
Money line (ML)
Tennessee (-5000) will cost you $100 for every $2 won, which is not a good betting strategy for the long term. PASS.
Against the spread (ATS)
APPALACHIAN STATE +19 (-110) is the play, as Tennessee -19 (-110) just haven’t rolled up big offensive numbers this season and haven’t come close to blowing anyone out. The Mountaineers will definitely give them a good test with their high-flying offense.
Over/Under (O/U)
UNDER 130.5 (-110) is the lean, hitting in each of the past two for App State and both of the games for Tennessee. The Mountaineers are a strong defensive team, and they’ll keep the Vols down. Tennessee is also very deliberate on the offensive end, and they play suffocating defense, too. This game should be squarely in the 120’s.
However, Colorado should be a lot better than they were against Tennessee’s suffocating defense, and they won’t be nearly as rusty.
