Antonio Johnson named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-American Team

Antonio Johnson has been named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-American Team as one of four defensive backs selected to the First Team Preseason Defense, including Cam Smith (South Carolina), Keelee Ringo (Georgia), and Eli Ricks (Alabama).

This preseason recognition is no surprise, as Johnson has been one of the best defensive backs in the nation dating back to last season, primarily playing in the slot cornerback position for the Aggies, recording 79 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 1 interception during the 2021 season, resulting in PFF grades of 84.7 in total defense, and an 88.7 coverage grade.

Johnson is also expected to enter the NFL draft after the 2022 season as one of the highest-graded cornerback prospects due to his speed, quickness, length, and coverage ability, with the versatility to potentially play safety depending on the team that ends up selecting him. Currently, Johnson is seen as a high to mid-first-round draft pick with the opportunity to bolster his stock and add on to what was already a stellar 2021 season, playing with one of the deepest and most talented defensive backfields in the nation.

Antonio Johnson truly exemplifies what it means to be an Aggie, and has already created a legacy for himself as one of the hardest working players to ever wear the maroon and white, and with all the expectations coming his way as we inch closer and closer to the new season, I can safely say that Johnson will give it everything he has every Saturday, and make it known that he is one of the best players in the entire college football landscape.
