Former North Carolina Tar Heels’ wide receiver Antoine Green was in a battle for one of the roster spots at wide receiver in Detroit Lions training camp this summer. Green was trying to secure the WR3 spot in Detroit’s offense and have a bigger role moving forward.
But on Monday, days after he suffered a concussion, the Lions waived Green from the roster in a flurry of moves.
Detroit announced that Green had been waived to go along with them signing quarterback Jake Fromm and linebacker Ty Summers. Green suffered a concussion in the preseason win over the New York Giants, and likely was not going to play again in the preseason.
#Lions announce roster moves:
– Waived Injured WR Antoine Green
– Released OL Ike Boettger
– Signed QB Jake Fromm and LB Ty Summers— Detroit Lions (@Lions) August 12, 2024
There is a chance that Green does clear waivers or does not sign with another team and possibly get another look in Detroit. But it’s disappointing to see his chances at a roster spot there seemingly end due to an injury.
In his rookie season last year, Green caught one of two targets for two yards for the Lions. He was buried on the depth chart and struggled to find playing time for a team that made it to the NFC Championship Game.
