Anthony Edwards explains his recent hot streak with Timberwolves

Edwards credits Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch for his recent run, in which he is averaging 23.4 points since the All-Star break.

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards has emerged as one of the hottest players in the NBA since the All-Star break and the No. 1 overall pick explained his recent run.

Prior to the break, Edwards was averaging 14.9 points, four rebounds and 2.5 assists in 36 games played with the Timberwolves. However, since then, Edwards is posting 23.4 points, five rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals in 22 games.

Edwards was named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for March after an incredible run. His 24.2 points per game during the month ranked third-most all-time by a teenager, behind only LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

During a recent interview with Tyler R. Tynes of GQ, Edwards discussed a wide range of topics, including what has enabled him to go on his recent hot streak.

(Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch) really let me play my game. He go out there and be like, ‘Just play yo game, do you.’ So, I’m just having fun at that point. When I’m having fun I’m playing my best. … I was playing a couple of games already. I was coming off the bench. Then, I was starting. And he got here and he told me to go out there and play my game. We played Toronto twice already and the first game I played, I had a really good game against them and he (enabled me) to play my game.

Edwards, who recently became the fifth-youngest player to reach 1,000 points, has emerged as one of the favorites to win Rookie of the Year following his recent play. However, the accolade doesn’t appear all that important to him as he just wants to help his team win.

With Edwards playing at a high level, the Rookie of the Year discussion figures to heat up over the final month of the season, especially with LaMelo Ball nearing a return to the court. The competition figures to be highly entertaining, nonetheless.
