Angel Reese’s WNBA debut was solid but anticlimactic as Wings down Sky

Angel Reese knocked down her first WNBA points, but it didn’t happen the way you think it did.

Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese scored the first official points of her WNBA career the same way she did the first time in a Sky uniform during the preseason — at the free throw line.

Reese’s 2024 draft partner, Kamilla Cardoso, is currently out with a shoulder injury that is expected to sideline her for four to six weeks. That left Angel to make her WNBA debut solo.

Like another fellow draft mate, Caitlin Clark, Reese started slowly. She was 0-for-4 from the free throw line to start the game and had zero field goals. Her first points as a pro did not come until the second quarter when she drew a foul on Natasha Howard, sending her to the line.

After halftime, Reese eventually got the first field goal of her career and ended the night with a solid stat line of 12 points, eight rebounds and one steal. That includes over six points in the fourth quarter as she fought through some foul trouble.

However, Reese’s team was unable to get the win. They fell to the Dallas Wings 87-79 during a huge late-game surge that the Sky could not overcome.
