Andy Reid: Richie James benefits from experience with former protege Mike Kafka

Andy Reid said Richie James’ experience under his former protege Mike Kafka has helped the receiver acclimate to the #Chiefs’ offense.

Andy Reid got former New York Giant Richie James involved early and often at the Kansas City Chiefs’ first full-scale training camp practice on Sunday, and seemed to like what he saw from the veteran wide receiver.

One key aspect of James’ experience seems to have given him a crucial advantage over his competition, which the head coach noted during his comments to the media.

Said Reid: “Richie [James] did a nice job, he’s familiar with the offense because he had [Giants Offensive Coordinator] Mike Kafka, so he didn’t have to go through and learn everything here maybe just a few new things and I like what I’ve seen from him. He’s a good football player, has a great feel for things.”

Perhaps James’ addition to the roster will prove to be pivotal to the success of Reid’s offense in 2023 as he looks to parlay lessons learned from his head coach’s protege last year in the Big Apple into playing time with the Chiefs.
