Andrew Wiggins is happy he wasn’t traded by Warriors

Steve Kerr has revealed that Andrew Wiggins didn’t want to leave the Golden State Warriors.

Andrew Wiggins was widely expected to be a potential trade chip for the Golden State Warriors heading into the Feb. 8 trade deadline. The veteran wing has struggled throughout the season, and there were growing concerns about his ability to bounce back and begin thriving within Steve Kerr‘s rotation.

However, Wiggins has turned his season around and, in turn, managed to convince the front office that he can still be a viable member of the Warriors rotation as they continue to search for their fifth championship of the Steph Curry era. During a recent interview on the “Willard and Dibs” show, Kerr revealed that Wiggins was keen on remaining in the Bay Area.

“(Wiggins) definitely wanted to stay,” Kerr said. “I talked to him the night of the trade deadline, he was very relieved. I was relieved too. I love Wiggs and I really wanted him here. I know what he can do. I know what he means to the team, the whole team loves him.”

Wiggins has been thriving as part of the Warriors’ new-look frontcourt that features Draymond Green at center and Jonathan Kuminga as the other forward player. Since Kerr implemented that rotation, Wiggins has looked like the player who helped lead the Warriors to a championship in 2022.

If he can sustain his current production level, Wiggins will likely reestablish himself as a core part of Golden State’s future. Then, he will not need to worry about being traded unless it’s part of a star-studded deal.
