The 2023 NFL draft process was bitterly unlucky for Andrew Vorhees. He tore his ACL during the combine and was expected to slide down draft boards despite still doing the bench press with one leg on the ground.
At least, Vorhees heard his name called at the NFL draft.
The Baltimore Ravens selected the USC offensive lineman in the seventh round on Saturday, taking him with pick No. 229.
Being undrafted would have been especially painful for Vorhees, but getting a draft selection — and the vote of confidence it represents — has to mean a lot to the Trojan warrior. Vorhees earned total respect from coaches and teammates by playing through pain last year.
Prior to tearing his ACL, Vorhees was projected to go early, with some even making the case that he was worthy of a first-round pick.
Vorhees will obviously not be able to play in 2023 due to his injury. The Ravens hope he can be part of the 2024 offensive line, which will block for Lamar Jackson, newly-inked to a megabucks contract. Vorhees will play for an AFC contender and one of the most electric quarterbacks in the NFL.
He will have a lot to prove next year. Don’t doubt that he will be ready.
Ravens just traded back into the seventh round and selected USC G Andrew Voorhees. He was a five-year starter in college, but he tore his ACL at the NFL Scouting Combine. This was a pick for the future.
