Andrew Berry shoots down notion of intentionally purging John Dorsey’s acquisitions

Berry has sent several Dorsey-acquired Browns packing

All of them were brought to Cleveland by former GM John Dorsey. All of them were sent packing by new GM Andrew Berry within weeks of the new regime taking over. And there will likely be more “Dorsey guys” moving out sooner than later.

Berry doesn’t want anyone to believe it’s an intentional purging of all things Dorsey in Cleveland. He made that clear in his conference call with reporters this week.

“The first thing I want to clarify is every player who is on the Browns roster, they are part of our organization and they are a Cleveland Brown. It is not about how they were acquired, who acquired them or anything along those lines,” Berry stated. “The players on our team, they are ours and we are going to embrace them with open arms regardless of how they got here.”

Berry continued, emphasizing the concept of building the Browns with the kind of players he wants,

“In terms of the question about assembling a team, it is no different than any other offseason. Our goal is to aggressively add talent and aggressively add players to the roster who can help us and fit in our schemes offensively and defensively on the field and are the type of people that we want in our organization. We said it multiple times: smart, tough and accountable.”

It will be interesting to see how much more turnover comes in Cleveland at the expense of Dorsey-acquired players. Guys like Chad Thomas, Taywan Taylor, Dontrell Hilliard and Terrance Mitchell are all replaceable in the coming draft and post-draft free agency, if Berry chooses to act.
