Andrel Anthony looks to be the ‘ultimate teammate’ for the Sooners this season

Andrel Anthony standing out in fall camp as he looks to define his role with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The [autotag]Oklahoma Sooners[/autotag] are still looking to replace more than 1,000 yards from their receiver room year from a year ago. [autotag]Marvin Mims[/autotag] was outstanding for Oklahoma, leading the Sooners in receiving each year in Norman. However, he’s now plying his craft for the Denver Broncos.

One guy they brought in to help replace that production is Michigan Wolverines transfer [autotag]Andrel Anthony[/autotag]. Anthony didn’t get much playing time but flashed big play ability when he got an opportunity.

Anthony spoke to reporters about his role heading into 2023. “Just the ultimate teammate,” Anthony said. “Whatever the team needs really.”

Anthony said he feels he’s a lot smarter now than he was in the spring.

“Just comfortable, that’s what I would say. Coach (Emmett) Jones really has challenged the receivers to learn more coverages and just know football as opposed to ‘Oh I play outside wide receiver,’ being more versatile. Then knowing what defenders are going to do before it happens.”

Anthony is someone who has gotten rave reviews for how he’s looked in fall camp. His elite speed is going to be used as a weapon for this offense. Count Brent Venables a believer in Anthony’s ability. Venables said, “Based on what we’ve seen so far Andrel will be a major part of the offensive system.”

But he’s still in his first year in this offense. There will undoubtedly be some ups and downs in the season. However, he’s someone who can make an immediate impact for a position that desperately needs it.
