Analyzing Colts’ snap counts from 30-18 win over 49ers

Taking a look at the snap counts from the Colts’ 30-18 win over the 49ers in Week 7.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-4) gutted out a 30-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers (2-4) on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium.

Despite the horrible weather conditions, the Colts ground their way to their third win over the last four games. It took a complete effort of winning the turnover battle while hitting some explosive plays on the offensive side of the ball.

Now, it’s time to take a look at the snap counts from the Week 7 win:

Offense

Analysis

  • With T.Y. Hilton (quad) inactive and Parris Campbell on injured reserve, it was the Michael Pittman Jr. show yet again. He only logged a 15.3% target share but was on the field for 91% of the snaps.
  • Meanwhile, Ashton Dulin served as the WR3 in the rotation with 63% of the snaps played.
  • It may have just been a one-off but Chris Reed played 65% of the snaps at right guard while starter Mark Glowinski played 35% of the snaps. We knew they would rotate, but it will be interesting if a change is being made.
  • In the backfield, Jonathan Taylor played 69% of the snaps followed by 19% for Nyheim Hines and 6% for Marlon Mack. It’s clearly a two-headed backfield and even then, it’s still Taylor’s room.
  • Rookie TE Kylen Granson continues to be buried on the depth chart behind Mo Alie-Cox and Jack Doyle.

Defense

Analysis

  • With Julian Blackmon out for the season due to a torn Achilles, the majority of safety snaps were given to Andrew Sendejo, who played 79% while George Odum filled in the other 21%.
  • Even with Kemoko Turay inactive, DE Ben Banogu didn’t have a single snap on defense.
  • With a run-heavy script and a thin secondary, the Colts leaned on their linebackers a bit more. Zaire Franklin played 30% of the snaps—his second-highest mark of the season—while E.J. Speed’s 14% snap share was a season-high.
  • CB BoPete Keyes played four special teams snaps (14%) before exiting the game with a hamstring injury.
