AJ Allmendinger will return to NASCAR Cup Series competition next year, Kaulig Racing revealed on Thursday via its social media channels, although full details of the program were not announced.
Currently ranked sixth in the Xfinity Series for Kaulig Racing, Allmendinger has won 15 races in the series since 2019 driving for the organization. Allmendinger has made 10 Cup Series starts driving the No. 16 Chevrolet for the Matt Kaulig-owned team this year.
It’s been an eventful few years for Allmendinger. He was released from his Cup Series ride at JTG Daugherty Racing after the 2018 season, having been a Cup Series competitor since 2007, but then aligned with Kaulig for a part-time ride in the Xfinity Series in 2019 and ’20, where he has been ever since. It turned into a full-time ride for the 2021-22 season while making five Cup Series starts.

Allmendinger won on the Indianapolis road course driving for Kaulig in 2021. It was his second career win and the first for Kaulig in the Cup Series. Last year, he won the Cup Series race on the Charlotte road course with Kaulig.
Kaulig Racing fields two full-time entries in the Cup Series, the Nos. 16 and 31. Daniel Hemric has been full-time in the No. 31 entry this year while Allmendinger has been one of multiple drivers to split time in the No. 16 car.
