All NFL drafts should be done at home from now on because this one was awesome

Let’s do this again.

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

I went into the 2020 NFL Draft the same way I think a lot of you did – expecting the worst with tech issues screwing things up, the viewing experience not being ideal, and the energy to be lacking without any crowd shots of fans going nuts over an offensive tackle they’ve never heard of (Ok, I did miss those).

But you know what? This draft was pretty darn great, so great that the NFL should think about doing this more often, though I doubt that will happen because there is a lot of money to be made by holding live in different cities. But can’t I take a second to dream? Can I have that second!?

This draft will always be remembered for how we got a different look into the lives of everyone involved with the league.

Roger Goodell, who was bad on the first night but got more fun over the final two days, kicked things off in his basement. In his basement! Lots of NFL fans had jokes about this, but it was kinda fun to watch the commish stand there in his house announcing picks.

What wasn’t fun? Those forced interactions with booing fans on a screen behind Goodell. Those were really awkward and I hope to never see them again.

We got to see Kliff Kingsbury living the way we all imagined him to live.

We got to see Bill Belichick’s dog steal the show.

We got to see Jerry Jones make picks from his huuuuuuuuuuge yacht.

We got to see players have some awkward moments at home.

We got to see family members of players have awesome moments like this one.

We got to see GM’s and coaches celebrating with their kids, who all looked very pumped to be watching their dads work, which was cool.

The draft ended with Goodell in a T-shirt and pants sitting in his chair shooting the breeze with Trey Wingo and you know what – my disdain for the commish went away for a bit. How did this happen!?

I just hope he seriously considers doing this again.

Because that was a fun three days.

ESPN’s ‘tragedy porn’ was the worst part about the draft

Ok, this part about the draft wasn’t good at all. After a lot of picks Trey Wingo would go from a break down of the player’s football skills to some sad story about the player losing someone in their family. It was extremely awkward and not done well at all. Lots of NFL fans hated it, and so did I. Hopefully ESPN learns from this.

Quick hits: Love and Rodgers… Colleges with the most picks… Rapoport clashes with agent… And more!

– New Packers QB Jordan Love has spoken with Aaron Rodgers since being picked in the first round and he revealed how that talk went.

– Here’s a list of the schools that had the most draft picks this season. LSU led the way with 14!

– NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport clashed with Trent Williams’ agent over trade report, which was fun.

– Here are Steven Ruiz’s first-round grades and his Day 2 grades.

– Here are all the picks from Day 3.

So long, NFL Draft. Thanks for some live sports stuff for a few days.
