Alabama’s QB concerns should not diminish national championship hopes

Alabama may be overlooked as a contender in 2023 because of QB concerns, but the team overall is still one of the most talented in the country.

Alabama Football has gone over half a decade without any concerns at the quarterback position. Going from Jalen Hurts to Tua Tagovailoa to Mac Jones to Bryce Young seems to have warped fans’ opinions on what it takes to win a national championship.

The 2023 season is an important one for the Crimson Tide and perhaps some questions will be answered as the offseason progresses and the quarterback battle continues.

It appears to be a three-man race at this point between Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner for the starting job. Many have focused on Saban’s alleged inability to choose one to sit at the helm of this offense, but have neglected to look at nearly every other position.

Josh Pate, host of “Late Kick Live,” recently made a perfect analogy to describe this year’s Alabama team.

When you’re driving in an area deprived of gas stations, you must do what you can to conserve gas and ensure you don’t hit ‘E’, Alabama’s had a full tank for a few years now, without any concerns at any position. Now that the needle isn’t hitting ‘F’ because the program lacks a star quarterback, fans assume their tank is rapidly emptying.

Pate makes it clear that a quarterback isn’t the only contributing factor to a national title run. The rest of the team still exists, and all non-quarterbacks at Alabama will be hungry to play above expectations now that they are doubted on a national level.

The Crimson Tide roster of 2023 doesn’t lack talent, it has a surplus of that. It lacks the big-name, star power that an Alabama roster typically has.

While there may not be any household names in the starting lineup to open the season, playing at Alabama is like putting a player’s talents through a bullhorn. It will be amplified greatly.

No one is quite sure who will start at quarterback for the Crimson Tide, nor is anyone outside of the program all too familiar with the expected playmakers on offense and defense. However, that could all change just a few weeks into the season.

Don’t count Alabama out yet just because there are some questions regarding the quarterback position.
