Throughout four innings, Tennessee pitcher Ashley Rogers and Alabama’s Montana Fouts were locked in a scoreless pitchers’ duel.
No. 2 Alabama then scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Alabama’s fifth inning scoring was enough to outlast No. 19 Tennessee, 3-0, Sunday at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
The victory would help Alabama win its second consecutive game and capture the Southeastern Conference series.
In the fifth inning, Lexi Kilfoyl drove in Alabama’s first run with a single. She would score Alabama’s (24-2, 5-1 SEC) final run of the game when KB Sides drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Maddie Morgan, a pinch-hitter, drove in the Crimson Tide’s other run during the frame with a sacrifice fly.
Fouts gave up six hits and a walk, while striking out eight.
Ashley Mogan had two hits for Tennessee (21-5, 2-4 SEC). Rogers threw a complete game for the Lady Vols. She gave up three runs, three hits, three walks and recorded one strikeout.
