Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. underwent successful surgery Monday after being shot twice in his lower body. He remained hospitalized, though a team official said there’s a chance he’ll be discharged in the afternoon.
Police say the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery Sunday in Washington. A timeline for his return to football hadn’t been determined, but his well-being took precedence as the football world sent thoughts and prayers, including Robinson’s former quarterback at Alabama, Bryce Young.
“That’s an extremely serious and sensitive situation. I just have prayers out to B-Rob and his family. That’s all I have at the time is prayers,” Young told For The Win in an interview Monday to promote his NIL partnership with Dr. Pepper.

Robinson thanked everyone for their prayers Monday on Instagram, saying the surgery went well. Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said the same, adding that Robinson will return when doctors clear him.
“It’s just about the healing process, and once he’s well enough to get on the field, doctors have to clear him and we’ll go from there,” Rivera told reporters. “Everything is positive so far.”
