There won’t be an NFL Scouting Combine in 2021, which makes pro day workouts all the more important for the top prospects in the 2021 NFL draft class.
For Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, his workout wasn’t up to par.
“I came out here and slung it around,” Jones told NFL Network following his workout earlier this week. “Obviously, I wish I had a bunch of throws back, but it is what it is. I’ll watch the tape and of course I’m going to be a little frustrated by the ones I missed.”
Jones is considered by most analysts to be the fifth-best quarterback in this year’s draft class, behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance and BYU’s Zach Wilson.
That said, the other four names on that list could easily be off the board in the top 10 picks, which could leave quarterback-needy teams fighting for Jones, who appears to be the last of the top-tier passers in this year’s group.
Jones clearly would love to have a redo of his pro day workout, but his game film from an incredibly productive championship season with the Crimson Tide should still be enough to get him picked early.
