Alabama Morning Drive: SEC tournament takes center stage

The top stories involving Alabama and the rest of the SEC on Thursday morning.

Good Thursday morning to all you kind folks who have decided to make Roll Tide Wire a small part of your day. I have plenty of good news to share this morning. The SEC men’s basketball tournament is officially underway and the Alabama football team is set to hit the field on Friday to begin spring practice.

Let’s get the morning drive rolling, shall we?

Round 1 of the SEC tournament is complete

The opening round of the 2022 SEC tournament went about as expected. 12-seed Missouri defeated 13-seed Ole Miss 72-60 while 11-seed Vanderbilt completely blasted 14-seed Georgia 86-51.

There are a total of four matchups today in Tampa. 8-seed Texas A&M will battle 9-seed Florida. 5-seed LSU will take on 12-seed Missouri. 7-seed South Carolina will face off against 10-seed Mississippi State. The final matchup of the night will be 6-seed Alabama tipping off against Vanderbilt.

Each game can be watched on the SEC Network.

Alabama baseball suffers embarrassing mid-week loss

Yesterday was a tough day on the diamond for the Alabama baseball team. North Alabama’s bats were hot and it was too much for the Tide to overcome as the Lions defeated the Crimson Tide 9-5.

Alabama will head into its weekend series with Binghamton with a 9-5 record. This is the last weekend series before conference play starts up on March 18 when the Tide will host the Florida Gators.

Spring practice starts tomorrow

In case you didn’t have enough reasons to be excited about the fact that tomorrow is Friday, here is another piece of good news. Nick Saban and the Alabama football team will hit the practice field tomorrow to begin spring practice.

Alabama will have plenty of questions to answer this spring. What is the offensive line going to look like? Who is running back one? Who will step up at wide receiver? Those questions are just the tip of the iceberg. Every Tide fan is sure to be curious about the competition for QB2. There are also several early enrollees and transfers that have Crimson Tide fans excited as well.

For the most part, there is plenty to be excited about this Thursday morning. We’ll see what the mood is like on Friday morning post-Alabama-Vandy on the hardwood. After all, it’s hard to tell which ‘Bama hoops team is going to show up.

That is going to put an end to our Thursday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope everyone has a safe and happy day. Make sure to stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for all the latest on the Alabama Crimson Tide!
