The Alabama basketball regular season may not have ended on the best note following the consecutive losses to Texas A&M and LSU to close out the season, but the Tide can prove that they belong in the field of 64 in the NCAA Tournament with a good showing in the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Alabama will enter the tournament as the sixth seed in the event and will face off against the winner of the first-round game between the 11-seed Georgia Bulldogs and the 14-seed Vanderbilt Commodores on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CST.
Should the Crimson Tide defeat their opponent on Thursday to advance, the slate becomes much more difficult. They drew the Kentucky side of the bracket and will tentatively face the 3-seed on Friday evening.
Elsewhere in the bracket, the Auburn Tigers clinched the SEC regular-season championship, thus they will enter the event as the No. 1 seed and will theoretically have the easiest path to the championship trophy, but nothing has been easy in the conference this season. Most of the top-seven seeds can beat anybody on any given day in the tournament.
The SEC is projected to receive six bids in the NCAA Tournament, however, that number could be subject to change based on the performances of a couple of teams that are presently on the outside looking in. Texas A&M, for instance, is a bubble team that can wow the committee with an impressive showing in the conference tournament.
Likewise, the Florida Gators are projected to be among the first four out according to multiple outlets, but with a strong showing against Texas A&M on Thursday, coupled with perhaps one more win in the tournament on day three, the Gators could easily snag a spot.
