Alabama men’s basketball team traveled to Portland, Oregon to compete in the Phil Knight Invitational last week. Nate Oats’ squad was able to come away with two ranked wins over Michigan State (Game 1) and North Carolina (Game 3). However, the Tide fell to UConn in Game 2 by 15 points.
As a result of the team’s performance in the PKI, the Tide was able to move up seven spots in the latest AP Poll. Alabama jumped from No. 18 to No. 11, a spot the team shares in a tie with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Tide improved to 6-1 on the season having won two out of three in Portland. That is a promising sign for the Tide as they continue their non-conference slate. Several other ranked opponents that the Tide will have to play are Houston (Dec. 10) and Gonzaga (Dec. 17). Last season, Alabama was able to defeat both programs.
Needless to say, the latest ranking speaks to what this squad has been able to accomplish in seven games.
